Dave Downie

Nice to see Dave again. We tried to get him last winter but he did his usual " going off the radar" It easy to see he is an accomplished pro tier by the way he rattled thro a load of flies whilst keeping up a running comentary. Quality and quantity. From delicate river dries to:-

No Name! Depth Charge for Czech Nymphing

Daves Blob materials are so secret I could not get a decent picture of the ones he tied and had to revert to his web site.

These Jinglers are everywhere

Cormorants with goose biot cheeks

Daves LDO

Olive Dabbler

Booby Cormorant

Quill Buzzer

Claret Snatcher with JC cheeks. Dsve also does them in Black and Olive

One for the river

And another

Daves Go to Damsel

And finally,  the Humungus. While Dave does not claim to have "invented" this fly he is probably best known for using it with devastating effect.

We concluded the day with a good mooch through Daves excellent selection of flytying materials.

Thanks Dave for a cracking presentation.

Here are the link for his sites.

John Liddle flytying presentation " Stillwater patterns"

Quote from John:- " Flytying is only limited by your imagination"

John then commenced to produce evidence of his vivid imagination.

(Apologies to John, I forgot my camera. I will try to get a photo of him in the future and addit here)

John started with a UV Kate McLaren

Next came a Detached Boddy Daddy with a furled body and foam head

Followed by a Fiery Brown Sedge

A Duck Fly (or Davy Smith's Pidgeon Fly

A Tricolour Blob made with John's own special technique for making blob fritz.

A Claret Dabbler and a match for any Irish tied fly

A Diawl Bach, another JL special

John's own Damsel pattern with a bit of Dawsons Olive influence

And a "Popper Hopper" Dry

A Claret Half Hog

Finishing with a Gold Head HE Nymph

John utilises a mix of ribs to add an extra dimension to his patterns and dies his own materials to give his flies that little bit of an edge.

Thanks John for a very enlightening evening.

I have details of all of the patterns as a word document. E-mail me for a copy
